Sneak Peak of Brand New Collection

May 10th, 2013

We have an incredible team behind us at Rachel Simpson Shoes, so it’s always a huge pleasure spending the day at incredibly beautiful venues, shooting  our ‘soon to be launched’ collection.

One of our favourite haunts is Highbury Hall in Birmingham, a truly gorgeous stately home hidden in the heart of Moseley village. It’s here that we bring together a huge array of clever folk from the wedding world to create some truly stunning images.

The exceptional talents of Emma Case, (huge girl crush!) photographer extraordinaire, joined by Jodie Hazlewood, who we would love to move in with us and make us over every morning.  Gorgeous gowns from The Wedding Club and Elizabeth Avey, men’s suits courtesy of Clements and Church, accessories from Laurel Lime and styling from the extremely clever and so blummin’ nice Ava Event Styling.

Topped off perfectly by our beautiful models for the day, Jodi (could double for Rachel Weisz) and the sweetest couple Leanne and Dave, who are getting married later this year. Leanne runs Blooming Lovely Films and now has a career in modelling to fall back on whenever she chooses!

The new collection launches soon and here’s a little hint from behind the scenes…

Hazaar of London Sneak Peek

May 9th, 2013

Our lovely friends at Hazaar of London were kind enough to send us over a few sneaky peek shots of their new collection from a recent shoot that we provided shoes for.

What we would give to be sat at this tea party and devouring these cakes!

Can you spot the gorgeous Carmen in the shots above?  Images courtesy of Frederick Sandy.

Harry Judd & Izzy Johnston get married!

January 7th, 2013

We very excitedly rushed out to buy the last copy of Hello at our local shop this afternoon, to peruse over the gorgeous photos of Harry Judd (McFly) and Izzy Johnston’s winter wedding. The couple got married in December and we were very excited to provide shoes for the bridesmaids, after Izzy got in touch last year.

Nearly all six bridesmaids chose a different shoe- Chloe, Tilly, Amelia, Dolly and Katie- all on a wearable two inch heel and all of which perfectly complimented their elegant floorlength dresses, by Tantrums & Tiaras.

Izzy was absolutely lovely to deal with, and looks just stunning in the photos (as do her bridesmaids too of course!). We’d like to congratulate the happy couple on their marriage- it looks as though they had an absolutely amazing day and we wish them every happiness in the world.xx

New collection launching next week..

November 20th, 2012

Next week we’re very excited to announce that we’ll finally be launching our capsule collection. It’s a small collection of styles which will be available to pre-order, ready for delivery early December. We’re looking forward to showing them to you, and think you’ll like them- they’ve got our signature, understated style, only this time we’ve combined this with some beautiful new materials, including Italian silk lace and beaded French lace- both really delicate and feminine, giving the shoes a truly luxe look.

It’s always exciting finally launching a new style. We had great fun designing these ones over the summer, meeting material suppliers to select the most delicious lace and trims to combine with our unique style, and all with the help of the lovely Katie, who joined us over the summer from De Montfort Uni. Samples were received towards the end of September, after which we did the usual fit tests to make the slight amendments ready for the shoes to go into production. As we speak, the shoes are probably being finished off on the production line, ready to be quality checked, wrapped in crispy white tissue and popped on the trucks bound for Birmingham!

We hope you like them. Keep an eye on the website early next week and let us know what you think. In the meantime, here’s a little taster..

xx

What’s your point?

November 2nd, 2012

So, if you were a shoe, what kind would it be and why? Don’t worry, I’m not auditioning for a re-launch of Blind Date, just reading an interesting article in Vogue. One of the contributors, Emma Elwick-Bates realises she has had a similar shoe style for years, favouring delicate points, courts and kitten heels. So it got me to thinking, does everyone have a shoe style, or are we more likely to chop and change throughout the week, as the mood takes us?

Blog pic 1

In the same issue, Franscesca Burns writes of her love for ‘beautifully ugly’ heels, such as Prada’s flatform brogues from last Spring/Summer and anything outlandish, chunky and generally not considered as traditionally ‘pretty’. Over the past ten years (and more), shoes have certainly been come even more of a personal statement than ever before. They’re the fail safe which won’t let you down, despite a bad hair / fat/ lack of confidence day..

Blog pic 2

It’s certainly true that now, more than ever, there’s a shoe to suit any mood. Whether it’s a killer pair of points for that important presentation at work, or a chunky soled, well worn pair of boots to throw on with your skinnies at the weekend, shoes affect the way you feel some would say more than the outfit these days. Who hasn’t thrown on the reliable little black dress, black tights and a brightly fantastic pair of shoes when they’re having an off day? (Just me then..)

Blog pic 4

So do we have a shoe personality, or is it purely down to the mood on the day? Take a look down, how are you feeling today? Did you pick the shoes to match your mood or are the shoes there to portray a certain image for today. I’m in my favourite pair of Marilyns in yummy teal suede, from a couple of seasons ago. And black tights. Hmm, perhaps I need that second coffee before facing the day- thank you shoes ;)

Time for T (bars..)

October 25th, 2012

We’ve known it for a long time, now it seems the fashion world has joined us in our love of t-bars! Imagine my excitement when I turned the page of yesterday’s ‘i’ newspaper- a whole page of lovely t-bars in all their colourful, strap-adorned glory! Seems the catwalk is going all strappy on us this Autumn and why not- they’re flattering, supportive & stylish, what more could a girl want?

T-bars3

Our little champion Mimi, has been in the collection since the company launched back in 2008. I can still remember the excitement when I drew it, and just knowing it would be popular. It’s so simple, but suits so many different dresses, and looks different at every wedding. We used to offer it in vintage green, lilac and silvery blue- if you could choose a colour for it what would you go for? (Pop on our Facebook page and tell us!)

Rachel Simpson-94

Other t-bars are the lovely Ginger, whether silver or gold; Emily, who is just too cute; and the stylish Tilly for those who prefer a lower heeled number..

An amazing weekend..xx

September 24th, 2012

Looking out the window today it’s hard to believe that this time on Saturday the sun was out, shining on the yurt, the mini VW Beetle and the 1950s airstream to name but a few..! I’m talking of course about just some of the amazing exhibitors who made this weekend’s Designer Vintage Bridal Show such an incredible event!

stand
(our stand- think every show should be in a stately home from now on, looks a bit lovely!)

After a busy set-up on Friday, the 2012 show finally opened it’s doors on Saturday morning. I say ‘it’s doors’ when what I should say is ‘the doors of the incredibly stunning/ magnificent/ elegant Hagley Hall’, who hosted this year’s event. A beautiful Georgian Palladian mansion, set in picturesque parkland, Hagley provided the perfect platform for the most elegant show of the year. For those of you unfamiliar, I’d recommend a visit- the venue alone is simply stunning.

As if that wasn’t enough, this year we filled it (and an incredible 30m marquee, complete with crystal chandeliers!) with 74 exhibitors, hand-picked for their creativity, talent and just damn gorgeous products & services. From vintage styling, to entertainment; from glorious couture cakes to the cutest stationery; from shiny headpieces & original vintage jewellery to comedy style photo booths this show had the lot.

The official photos tell the full story and are coming soon, but in the meantime here are a few snaps from the weekend. Highlights have to include chatting to our fellow shoe lovers who came to see us (and Mr Choo of course!), meeting all the gorgeous people who are the DVB exhibitors.. and of course having after show drinks in the grounds as the sun set on day one.

Massive and heartfelt thanks to everyone who made, and continues to make The Designer Vintage Bridal Show what it is. A unique, one in a million show, where people talk, swop notes, inspire and just enjoy being part of the a truly magical weekend. And of course with that goes all the visitors who became part of that magic the minute they walked up those ‘crying out for a costume drama’, sweeping steps..

Thank you one and all. See you next year..xxx
