Clare GuestClare Guest from The Wedding Club in Harborne, Birmingham tells us a bit about herself and her love of all things bridal…

Tell us a bit about the company
The Wedding Club was established in May 2001 by Emma Clarke. The lack of choice that Emma encountered when searching for her own wedding dress was the impetus behind it. We only stock dresses that we adore, and that offer the bride something a bit different. Our current collections include Jenny Packham, Temperley London, Elie Saab, Manuel Mota, Jesus Peiro & Pronovias.

How did you get into the industry?
I joined The Wedding Club in 2007 as a part time assistant. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with the boutique and the industry, and I am very excited at the prospect of becoming a partner this year.

What’s your best seller?
The Jenny Packham “Elizabeth” gown has been one of our best sellers. It is such a simple, yet glamorous gown that flatters girls of all shapes and sizes.

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
Elie Saab. He uses the most luxurious laces and silks and really knows how to accentuate a woman’s femininity.

Audrey TautouCelebrity shoppers, anyone we know?
All of the designers that we stock have A-list celebrities amongst their clientele, including Keira Knightly, Scarlett Johanssen, Halle Berry and Cheryl Cole. I would love to sell a wedding dress to Audrey Tautou. I would put her in one of Jesus Peiro’s classic and simple styles.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
We have recently returned from Barcelona and London, buying our sample stock of the 2011 Collections. The Elie Saab and Jenny Packham dresses for next season are exceptionally stunning. We really struggled to choose! The dresses will be delivered from September – I cannot wait! I get so excited when they come…

Describe your personal fashion style
Urban femininity. Dresses are my biggest indulgence!

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
My 1980s demi-wave, which took years to grow out!

Think back to your first ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, describe them please
I don’t remember my first shoe purchase, but I do remember a pair of sandals that I had when I was 9. They were red with cherries on them, and had a square ‘high’ heel. I had to plead with my mum to get them, as they were totally impractical for school, but I loved them so much. They made me feel really pretty.

Lilly 153What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
I love so many of Rachel’s shoes, but my favourite are Lilly. I have them in the black and wear them all the time!

Describe Rachel Simpson Shoes in three words
Irresistible, sleek, timeless.

She’s Electric!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Elecric wedding logoWe love to read other bridal blogs and we’ve come across a cracker this week. Electric Wedding is a fabulous blog written by two brides-to-be who scour the land for the unique and gorgeous designers, boutiques and suppliers of all things bridal. They love to help all brides that are struggling to find everything they need and lots that they didn’t even know they needed!! Here’s what Emma had to say when we chatted recently:

Emma Electric Wedding
Tell us a bit about your company
Electric Wedding is a wedding blog by brides for brides. It began when myself and my very good friend Charlotte both became engaged and started to wonder if we were the only ones who were struggling to fit in with the idea of the perfect wedding. We wanted something a bit more real, so we decided to blog our own personal journeys to the alter – both the highs and the lows, in the hope that other brides could look at us and relate to what we were doing. We both also found it took a while to find the smaller suppliers who really deserved a big shout out, so we decided to list ones we love in our Electric Directory along the way.

How did you get into the industry?
We just started blogging! In the short time we have been up and running, we have been very lucky to meet some fabulous people – suppliers, brides and also other amazing wedding bloggers – who have made our journey so much more fun!

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
I am totally in love with Claire Pettibone. Her whole boho/ethereal look completely inspired my wedding. I am lucky enough to be wearing one of her dresses and I can’t wait!

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
Well the most exciting personal event for me is my wedding on July 23rd! However after that, Charlotte and I are very much looking forward to visiting as many local (as well as the national) wedding shows as we can, not only to find more suppliers, but to plan Charlotte’s wedding! We will also begin the hunt for our next Electric Bride – after my own wedding is out the way we want to keep the ‘real bride’ diaries going, as this is what Electric Wedding is all about, so we need to start the search for a new blogger soon!

Marianne FaithfullDescribe your personal fashion style
I think I would describe my own style as Sunshine Boho with a bit of vintage thrown in My all time style icon is Marianne Faithfull. My current style crush is Cheryl Cole. If I could be anyone in history it would be Marie Antoinette. I love her dresses in the Sophia Coppola film.

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
Ooooooh that would have to be an entire phase actually – my late 90s trance clubber phase, where I insisted on wearing bracelets that came out of a cracker, combat trousers and a big pink watch that flashed like a heart. Why? Why?!

Think back to your first ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, describe them please
My first shoes I can remember getting were silver t bar shoes with a little see through panel in the bottom, that you could see a little key through. They were from a Princess range at Clarks. I wanted them for weeks and weeks. They were amazing. I was seven.

What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
My favourite pair is Tiffany – I am wearing these to walk down the aisle in 6 weeks time! Hurray!

Describe Rachel Simpson Shoes in three words
Amazing, Antique – style, totally Attainable shoes!

Top Tips for Pretty Peeptoes

Monday, June 14th, 2010

On the rare occasion yours truly gets some free time, we lilke nothing more than a bit of pampering to ensure our feet not only feel good but look good too, especially now summer has arrived and is tempting us into our peeptoes.

Mimi silver blue still life- LOW RES
We’re loving the work of Utopia, one of our favourite places for a treat on the feet, Luisa who works all sorts of beauty miracles gives us some handy tips for twinkly toes.

“Our feet really taking a bashing everyday – remember they take the weight of your whole body and take on average 10,000 steps a day so its important we look after them.

* Wash feet daily and always dry thoroughly between your toes

* Cut and file toe nails straight across – never cut into the sides

* Regular pedicures once every four to six weeks will keep your tootsies in tip top shape and are so relaxing

* Apply cream every day but avoid putting between your toes

* When purchasing new shoes always try them on in the afternoon when feet are a little larger – a good fit and well made shoes are essential, Rachel Simpson Shoes have been designed with comfort as a priority, so there beautiful shoes are good for you too!

* For a quick pick me up you can do at home – soak your feet in a bowl or warm water with a few drops of olive oil and a bag a peppermint tea – this will really revive tired aching feet.

Look after your feet and they will look after you.”

So now your feet are a sight for sore eyes, why not slip on a pair of Rachel Simpson vintage inspired peeptoes, Mimi, Lilly and Eva?

We all love Mimi and you can see why with her array of colour options, her effortless style and with two colour choices currently in our clearance, you could even treat yourself to a pair for each foot!

Lilly in her lace and satin has a classic side bow and is available in stunning ivory or classic black, the perfect finishing touch to a summer bridal gown or an evening cocktail dress.

And last but by no means least, elegant Eva – simply divine on her own or matched with any of our jewel and pearl shoe clips to create a real diva Eva!

Bowled Over By New Vintage Boutique

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Branding PlayIt’s official, Rachel Simpson Shoes is in love! Every now and again we come across some absolutely amazing companies in the wedding market and inevitably we end up working with them. With vintage inspiration being very high on our agenda, when we met Kate Bowl from the brand new vintage bridal boutique Queens and Bowl, we were literally bowled over and once we’d managed to regain our composure, we grabbed some time with our new friends for a chat…

Tell us a bit about your company
My company is called Queens & Bowl and we specialise in vintage-inspired wedding shoes, jewellery and headpieces; we’ve been running since May 2010 (yes, 1 month!) The boutique is 100% online-based and caters for busy brides looking for a glamorous, vintage look to their wedding but who are either too busy to go from shop-to-shop searching for what they want or who aren’t quite sure what look to go for. By providing a selection of different brands in one place and also offering an ‘inspiration area’ on the site with ideas and tips, I hope to be able to make the process of shopping for perfect wedding accessories a lot less stressful.

iMAG1NE_20090117_177
How did you get into the industry?
I spent nearly 10 years working in marketing for some very large online retailers, so I’ve learned to spot a good site from a bad one. When shopping for my own wedding accessories in 2007/8, I was working full time and heading off to hen weekends most weeks – I had a clear idea of what I wanted but no free time to commit to tracking down, so the internet was essential. However, try as I might, I just couldn’t find any sites that sold quality, vintage-style pieces in an environment that was easy and safe to shop. Sites were either selling tacky merchandise, were painfully slow, difficult to navigate or just seemed untrustworthy. So in the end I bought my accessories from a few different U.S. sites and had them shipped over. After the wedding I decided to put my knowledge and firsthand experience into setting up a site that not just sells beautiful accessories, but is also a breeze to shop.

What’s your best seller?
As we’re quite new it’s hard to say, but the hair bandeaus from Stephanie Browne have had a lot of interest.

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
When it comes to bridal accessories I am a big fan of all of the designers we stock (of course!) but I also love what Jenny Packham is doing with bridal accessories at the moment – they are big, bold, statement pieces, but still feminine. They are unapologetic and most definitely not an afterthought – they really do make the outfits stunning.

Celebrity shoppers, anyone we know?
Not yet (give us time!), but I would love to see a modern Hollywood starlet in some of our pieces. I really like Katherine Heigl’s red carpet style – she definitely takes inspiration from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, with her hair set in waves, red lipstick and dresses cut to flatter her hourglass figure.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
I’m looking forward to adding more brands to the site, but not too many, as I think it’s important to only choose the cream of the crop and keep a boutique feel. I love going to trade shows and speaking to new designers.

Describe your personal fashion style
My style tends to be feminine, but not in a floaty, floral way – I just always try to dress to flatter my hourglass shape. I have dark hair, so am a big fan of rich, jewel colours however I’m loving greys and nudes at the moment. I do often worry that I’m overdressed when I go out but my husband says there’s no such thing!

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
When I was about 14 I was a BIG fan of crushed velvet and remember going on a school trip to London wearing crushed velvet leggings, voluminous white blouse, black waistcoat and cherry Doc Martens with red tartan laces. Nice!

Think back to your first ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, tell us about them.

I remember when I was about 13 pestering my mum to contribute half the cash so I could buy these bright red stilettos from Marks and Spencer. Talk about all dressed up and nowhere to go – I think I wore them around the house for months.

Marilyn 156 (cut-out)What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
I LOVE the Marilyn style in mink – colour is beautiful and the bow looks so sumptuous and delicious you could eat it! I also think the Mimi style in ivory is just perfect for any vintage theme.

In the Pink with RocknRollBride!

Friday, June 4th, 2010

We had the pleasure of meeting blog fantastico Kat Williams at the White Gallery bridal exhibition last month and took time out to find out more about this fabulous pink-haired Rock and Roll bride.

Grass_RocknRollBride-268_blogTell us a bit about your company
My name is Kat Williams and I have a blog called
Rock n Roll Bride. I started it in 2007 when I was planning my own wedding as an online diary. After the wedding I didn’t want to stop blogging so I morphed the blog into a place to share the unique, alternative and rock n roll weddings and photo shoots that I loved. Nowadays the blog attracts a huge following both here and abroad (especially in the states) and I have been able to meet and get to know a lot of amazing people within the wedding industry who I like to share with my readers.

What’s popular on your site?
My most popular type of posts are weddings which highlight really unique details and amazing and alternative/different fashion.

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
She’s not really mad into the wedding industry but I totally adore Vivienne Westwood. Her style is crazy, out-there, eclectic and fabulous. There is no one else like her and I love it. She is a true original.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year? Product launches, travel, shows, exhibitions?
I am looking forward to putting together some photo shoots though out the year to help promote some of my favourite UK wedding suppliers and vendors. I have already completed one; a Punk Rock Bride style shoot and I have plans for a shoot in Paris as well as many more in this country. Not only is this crazy-fun for me but it enables me to help showcase some fabulous UK talent on the blog.

Describe your personal fashion style
A little bit crazy! I usually wear dark colours but love to funk it up with crazy bright accessories. Im loving my big stompy Superdry boots at the moment as well as my Vivienne Westwood shoes! I never wear jeans anymore, favouring leggings and long tops or dresses. Of course my hair is pink so I always look a bit mad and ’out-there’ whatever I’m wearing!

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
Probably too many to mention!

Think back to your first ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, describe them please
I remember I fell in love with a pair of canvas, heeled pump shoes with laces from Miss Selfridge (in fact I think this style is now back ‘in’!) when I was about 13/14. The only pair they had left was way too small for me but I bought them anyway because I loved them so much. I think I wore them once! I’m always very conscious of getting comfortable shoes now and I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to heels!

Marilyn 156 (cut-out)What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
Either ‘Marilyn’ (in the mink suede) or ‘Carmen’. I love anything with a vintage vibe and both of these are stunningly beautiful and have a real authentic vintage twist. I would be proud to wear these on my wedding day!

Describe Rachel Simpson Shoes in three words
Elegant, timeless and vintage
