Sneak Peak of Brand New Collection

Friday, May 10th, 2013

We have an incredible team behind us at Rachel Simpson Shoes, so it’s always a huge pleasure spending the day at incredibly beautiful venues, shooting  our ‘soon to be launched’ collection.

One of our favourite haunts is Highbury Hall in Birmingham, a truly gorgeous stately home hidden in the heart of Moseley village. It’s here that we bring together a huge array of clever folk from the wedding world to create some truly stunning images.

The exceptional talents of Emma Case, (huge girl crush!) photographer extraordinaire, joined by Jodie Hazlewood, who we would love to move in with us and make us over every morning.  Gorgeous gowns from The Wedding Club and Elizabeth Avey, men’s suits courtesy of Clements and Church, accessories from Laurel Lime and styling from the extremely clever and so blummin’ nice Ava Event Styling.

Topped off perfectly by our beautiful models for the day, Jodi (could double for Rachel Weisz) and the sweetest couple Leanne and Dave, who are getting married later this year. Leanne runs Blooming Lovely Films and now has a career in modelling to fall back on whenever she chooses!

The new collection launches soon and here’s a little hint from behind the scenes…

Meet Eva in Green

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

We’ve already gushed a lot about our lovely friends Emma Case and Pete Smyth who got married recently, but any excuse to bring it up again eh!

Whilst throwing shapes on the dance floor we happened to spot a pair of our shoes (nothing makes us happier when that happens) so popped over to say hello and find out a little more about the foot and the person it belonged to.

The lovely Ruth (who was featured recently in the Sunday Mercury as part of the promotion for the Designer Vintage Bridal Show) had bought Eva and then had them dyed a beautiful dark green to compliment her wedding day theme.

Ruth married her lovely hubby Dan in Derbyshire in October 2009 and Eva just proves that our vintage inspired shoes are perfect for the big day and any other day afterwards for that matter.

Prom Night Nuptials

Friday, March 25th, 2011

This week how can I start with anything other than the fact that… EMMA CASE got married!! The photos on our yummy new website are courtesy of the very talented Ms Case, and we were invited to her 30th birthday party on Saturday.

The theme was 1950s High School Prom, so along we all tottered petticoated and red-lipsticked up to the hilt, and enjoyed gorgeous yummy treats from the ever creative Boutique Baking Company.

The stunningly styled room was full of fab peeps including the funky Kat from Rock n Roll bride, the lovely Annabel (Love My Dress), the elegant Lucy Ledger (of the beautiful stationery!) and the beautiful Debbie (of the lovely DC Bouquets!) amongst many others! Cheeky Mr Steve Gerrard photographed the event, complete with photobooth and comedy props..oh dear watch this space for very amusing pics coming soon…

As if a 30th birthday party wasn’t enough, halfway through the night everyone gathered on the dancefloor, where a stunning Emma re-appeared, wearing a beautiful vintage wedding dress from Fur Coat No Knickers and thus their marriage earlier that day was revealed. After the most beautiful speeches and the most romantic first dance EVER, there wasn’t a dry eye on the dancefloor. Congratulations to Emma and Pete and we wish you all the love in the very sunny world..

Also this week we popped up to the British Bridal Exhibition in Harrogate, to have a nosey at the show and also pop along to the Bridal Buyer Awards 2011, for which we were nominated as Best Bridal Shoe Company. We didn’t take the trophy (although were pleased with the cheers!), but did have a very enjoyable evening sharing a table with Jenny Packham, Halo and Co, Anthony Formalwear and La Boutique. Congrats to all the winners, but especially Jenny Packham and Anthony Formalwear, as we got to share their winners champagne! ;-)

It’s all about SHOES…

Monday, February 28th, 2011

This morning I just have to tell you about Sadler’s Wells’ fabulous new musical Shoes which opened in London earlier this month. What can I say? Two hours of toe-tapping, foot-stomping, laugh out loud fun, including numbers such as “Imelda Argues With The Nation’, ‘Flip Flop Paradigm’ and ‘Sneaker Addict’- I was hooked!

Shoes theatre trip
Thanks to Louise and Vicky (pictured) from the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre for a great day out. Naturally after all those shoes we just had to squeeze in a bit of retail therapy, followed by dinner in Soho. Got my eye on Priscilla for the next trip..or maybe just a 20ft fairy light drenched shoe over the front porch.. Shoes runs until 3rd April and I would thoroughly recommend a trip.

This week I’ve also fallen a bit more in love with the beautiful Emma Case- if you’ve not already checked out her amazing photography of last weekend’s Designer Vintage Bridal Show, have a look at the fab blogs from Rock n Roll Bride and Love My Dress on our Facebook page. To top it all off I was uber excited to come into work today to a CD of images packaged so beautifully I just had to share it with you- complete with cute little EC magnets!

I’m also getting ridiculously excited about our very new, very fabulous website which will be launching tomorrow (exclusive!). The fabulous Matt has worked his magic once again and made it even easier (and more fun) to shop at our online boutique. Keep an eye out tomorrow and let us know what you think via our Facebook page.

We’re still busy sending out beautiful shoes, but are keeping our energy levels up with never ending cups of tea and biscuits.. I personally think it’s pro-longed withdrawal symptoms from last week’s afternoon teas from the Boutique Baking Company..

Ps- also bought the cutest little t-bars from Bertie, positively edible!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

We hope you had a lovely day yesterday, full of festive fun, plenty of over-indulgence and general merriment!

Now you have some time to yourself and you are flicking through the pages of your favourite websites (don’t forget our Boxing Day sale!), take five to meet Emma Case. If you are not aware of this amazing young lady, then read on – one hell of a creative, talented photographer with a lover of all things unique and vintage…

Emma Case LogoTell us a bit about your company My name is Emma Case and my little business is ‘Emma Case Photography’.   I live in Birmingham, next to Cadbury World with my cat Maximo and my boy Pete.  I am an alternative wedding photographer who specialises in vintage inspired weddings and love working with couples that like to do things a bit differently.  I shot my first wedding in October 2009 for a friend and by the end of 2010 I will have shot 27 weddings!  It has been the most wonderful year and I am so, so lucky to be shooting what I’m shooting!

How did you get into the industry? Pete had proposed to me the same year that he bought me a camera… I started experimenting with the camera and at the same time browsing the internet for wedding ideas… I was typing in ‘vintage’ photographer, ‘alternative‘ photographer and nothing came up.  I then found all these amazing wedding photographs from America and I was hooked!  A friend then asked if I would shoot her wedding… it was a vintage style wedding so I sent it to Rock n’ Roll Bride as that had been a blog that I had been reading and drooling over for a while… Kat blogged the wedding and all of a sudden I had quite a few enquiries.  It pretty much snow balled from there!

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why? Featherlove Photography has been a huge influence to me with regards to style, staying true to who you are, to not be afraid of doing things differently… we were lucky enough to do an Engagement shoot with her when she was in London for a few days.  That was a pretty big moment for me.

Tell us about someone you follow on Twitter that we should be following or an fashion-related blog that our fans should be reading and why. I think if you are in the wedding industry or if you’re a bride then Rock ‘n Roll Bride and Love My Dress are pretty much a sure thing.  You’ll also find everyone else through them too so it’s the perfect place to start!

Celebrity shoppers? I am so proud to say that my clients are all genuinely lovely people who I love to spend time with.  No celebrities I’m afraid… but I hope that they feel like a celebrity with their wedding photos

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year? Lots more shooting, lots more weddings, the Designer Vintage Bridal Show, maybe looking at running a workshop, doing a charity project abroad, a better work/life balance…

In your industry, tell us what you think is going to be hot next season. I think photography is just going to get better and better.  When my first wedding was blogged by Kat, it seemed that most of the weddings featured were American… now we have a good, strong group of British wedding photographers that are exciting, beautiful, alternative, modern, crazy… and we’re all really supportive of each other… it’s a great community to be a part of.

Describe your personal fashion style. Most of my wardrobe contains floral, vintage dresses.  I’m a sucker for floral. Which is funny because when I was growing up I hated floral (I was a bit of a tom boy).  I’m also partial to a fur coat and a headband.  I love my headbands.

What is your biggest fashion faux pas? A shell suit?… but I was about 11 and I am technically a Scouser so it doesn’t count.

Think back to an early ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, describe them please. I had a pair of topshop heels that were a beautiful tan colour with a peep toe and thin straps across the toes… I loved them but couldn’t walk in them very well so used to just look at them a lot and only wear them when I knew I would be sitting down!

What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes? I think Mimi are my favourite… they are beautiful and very vintage.. and I know that I would be comfortable wearing them too…

Describe Rachel Simpson Shoes in three words. Elegant, vintage, luxury

If Rachel Simpson Shoes is known for its vintage inspiration and simply beautiful shoes, what is your company synonymous with?
Honest, emotional and vintage inspired wedding photography

Greetings from Lucy Ledger Designs

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

If you’re a fan of Twitter, you can follow us @rachelshoes. If you follow us already, you’ll notice that we follow and regularly retweet about some of our favourite wedding companies currently doing their thing out there in Bridesville. A current favourite of ours; someone else that is a bit quirky and full of vintage inspiration is Lucy Ledger Designs, who design and sell greeting cards, prints and wedding stationery for the bride to be that wants something a little different and that reflects their personality. Since the launch of her business in March this year, Lucy Ledger has quickly become a name to watch out for, we found out why…Lucy Ledger Logo (2)

How did you get into the industry?
I have been a professional illustrator and graphic designer for 10 years after I graduated from Manchester with a BA Hons degree in Illustration. I decided to set up a stationery business after I got married last year and couldn’t find any stationery that reflected our personalities!

Country garden- INVITE-proofWhat’s your best seller?
I have two best sellers at the moment- the ‘Country Garden’ collection for the bride and Groom who wants something quintessentially English and the ‘Cool Britannia’ collection for couples who want to rock the British theme!

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
From an artists point of view I love Peter Blake and Tim Burton for their imagination and pure quirkiness- both where a huge inspiration to me through my university years. As for fellow Stationers; I like designers who stick to a unique personal style throughout their designs and branding- my absolute favourites at the moment are ‘Bunny Delicious’ and ‘Sugalily

Grass_RocknRollBride-268_blog lowTell us about someone you follow on Twitter that we should be following or an fashion-related blog that our fans should be reading and why
Kat from Rock n Roll Bride is great to follow on Twitter- She is an inspirational wedding blogger with original ideas but she doesn’t just tweet about the latest blog posts- her personality really shines through.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
Lots to look forward to this year! The wedding range is expanding with lots of new collections being added over the next couple of months, I will be introducing a high-end hand finished pocketfold collection later this summer, I will have a stand at the vintage wedding fayre in Harrogate in September and a fantastic promo photoshoot with Emma Case next month.

In your industry, tell us what you think is going to be hot next season
I have had a lot of recent interest in the ‘Divine Deco’ collection so I think vintage will still be big but with more of an emphasis on 20s and 30s glamour.

Describe your personal fashion style
Boho, girly and a little bit shabby chic!

What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
ALL OF THEM!! I really love all of Rachel’s designs but if I had to pick one I would choose the Fleur design for being quirky but beautiful!Fleur 163 low

Pick a pair of Rachel Simpson Shoes and match it to something you sell, why this combination?
I would pick the Mimi in Lilac Satin to go with my ‘Country Garden’ range as they are classically English and so pretty just like this collection!Mimi 127 low
