Matthew Williamson News

Monday, December 20th, 2010

As  loyal readers of this blog you will know that we attend many great wedding shows across the year and that this year we were invited to exhibit at the brand new White Gallery bridal trade show in London.

Imagine our delight when we found out from our friends at Bridal Buyer Magazine, that Matthew Williamson will be exhibiting at the same White Gallery show next year to launch his first ever bridal collection.

We were lucky enough to meet him and have a sneaky peak at his work, whilst over in New York earlier this year and we are VERY excited indeed!

Mixing in High Society

Monday, July 5th, 2010

We love to highlight fabulous boutiques and companies that provide simply gorgeous things for brides to be.

High Society Bride logoHighSocietyBride.co.uk is a website dedicated to designer accessories, from shoes (including yours truly) to jewellery and everything in between!

Read on to find out a little more about these fantastic people, we spoke to Awen Evans, co-owner and truly fabulous person…

Tell us a bit about your company
We opened High Society, a beautiful designer wedding dress shop in South Wales back in 2002, stocking the very best designer wedding dresses, and over the years have built up a stunning range of designer accessories. We soon realised that there are a lot of very busy brides in the UK, and around the world, looking for beautiful shoes, headpieces, tiaras, handbags and jewellery that can be bought online, but no really inspirational websites for top-quality, designer accessories. . So we created highsocietybride.co.uk to give the look and feel of a beautiful bridal boutique with the convenience of shopping from your office or from home!

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
We love Jenny Packham – she started her own label immediately after graduating, and has personally built it up to be a world-renowned design house, loved by celebrities, fashionistas and of course brides all over the world. Not content with her award winning dresses and bridal gowns, she launched her accessory range last year, which we have online – an amazing range of unique headpieces and bracelets that are honestly unlike anything else out there. You can spot a Jenny Packham a mile away! With even more designs coming in the autumn, we love Jenny for her glamour and personal style, as well as her commitment to quality and professionalism – a true inspiration.

Tell us about someone you follow on Twitter that we should be following, or an fashion-related blog that our fans should be reading and why
Our favourite bridal blogs and Tweeters are Rock my Wedding and Love my Dress, and of course the unforgettable Kat of RocknRoll Bride. Outside of bridal, Red Carpet Fashion Awards is the ultimate blog for celebrity style – if anyone who’s anyone has worn anything anywhere, it’s all here!

Denise Van Outen in Jenny PackhamCelebrity shoppers- who buys your product or who would you love to see wearing (or using) your product?
Cheryl Cole wore Acacia II by Jenny Packham on the X-Factor, and Jodi Albert wore it for her wedding, and Denise Van Outen wore Brooke by Jenny Packham for her wedding. We would love to see Kylie Minogue in some fabulous jewellery from Magpie Vintage, or some fabulous shoes – Hettie would look very cute on such dainty feet!

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
We are just receiving our new Leigh-Anne McCague and Magpie Vintage accessories, which are fabulous! We loved the White Gallery in May, and are looking forward to all our new goodies arriving through the autumn. We are also going to the Autumn Fair in September to look for new accessories – it’s our first time at the Fair so it will be very exciting.

In your industry, tell us what you think is going to be hot next season
Vintage just keeps going from strength to strength, and we are seeing more 1920s – 1950s-specific inspiration – art deco styling, silver screen siren hair and make-up or cute Mary-Jane shoes and shorter dresses, alongside the more timeless ‘vintage’. Brides are definitely getting bolder in their accessories, choosing statement headpieces or jewellery for a real wow factor.

Lola Purple low resWhat is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
My personal favourite is Lola – in ivory or purple, this is a shoe to die for! The cute ribbon, sexy cut outs and overall vintage glamour make these very special and not something you’ll see duplicated all over the high street. And of course, being Rachel Simpson shoes, the comfort from the leather is first-class and the suede is oh-so tactile – if a shoe can be strokeable, these definitely are!

Mimi lifestyle 2 lowPick a pair of Rachel Simpson Shoes and match it to something you sell, why this combination?
We think Mimi looks beautiful for an art-deco look – perfect with Lucy Marshall’s Lilly headpiece, Emma Kate Francis’ Jolie 101 filigree pearl jewellery set, Harriet Wilde’s Pearl handbag and a pretty ivory lace parasol. The soft champagne trim on Mimi works perfectly with a vintage look and the pearls in the jewellery and handbag, and the forehead headpiece is perfect for that 1920s look. Think the Great Gatsby but with lashings of romance.

In the Pink with RocknRollBride!

Friday, June 4th, 2010

We had the pleasure of meeting blog fantastico Kat Williams at the White Gallery bridal exhibition last month and took time out to find out more about this fabulous pink-haired Rock and Roll bride.

Grass_RocknRollBride-268_blogTell us a bit about your company
My name is Kat Williams and I have a blog called
Rock n Roll Bride. I started it in 2007 when I was planning my own wedding as an online diary. After the wedding I didn’t want to stop blogging so I morphed the blog into a place to share the unique, alternative and rock n roll weddings and photo shoots that I loved. Nowadays the blog attracts a huge following both here and abroad (especially in the states) and I have been able to meet and get to know a lot of amazing people within the wedding industry who I like to share with my readers.

What’s popular on your site?
My most popular type of posts are weddings which highlight really unique details and amazing and alternative/different fashion.

Which designer from your industry inspires you and why?
She’s not really mad into the wedding industry but I totally adore Vivienne Westwood. Her style is crazy, out-there, eclectic and fabulous. There is no one else like her and I love it. She is a true original.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year? Product launches, travel, shows, exhibitions?
I am looking forward to putting together some photo shoots though out the year to help promote some of my favourite UK wedding suppliers and vendors. I have already completed one; a Punk Rock Bride style shoot and I have plans for a shoot in Paris as well as many more in this country. Not only is this crazy-fun for me but it enables me to help showcase some fabulous UK talent on the blog.

Describe your personal fashion style
A little bit crazy! I usually wear dark colours but love to funk it up with crazy bright accessories. Im loving my big stompy Superdry boots at the moment as well as my Vivienne Westwood shoes! I never wear jeans anymore, favouring leggings and long tops or dresses. Of course my hair is pink so I always look a bit mad and ’out-there’ whatever I’m wearing!

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
Probably too many to mention!

Think back to your first ‘shoe’ purchase when you were younger, describe them please
I remember I fell in love with a pair of canvas, heeled pump shoes with laces from Miss Selfridge (in fact I think this style is now back ‘in’!) when I was about 13/14. The only pair they had left was way too small for me but I bought them anyway because I loved them so much. I think I wore them once! I’m always very conscious of getting comfortable shoes now and I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to heels!

Marilyn 156 (cut-out)What is your favourite pair of Rachel Simpson shoes?
Either ‘Marilyn’ (in the mink suede) or ‘Carmen’. I love anything with a vintage vibe and both of these are stunningly beautiful and have a real authentic vintage twist. I would be proud to wear these on my wedding day!

A Whiter Shade of Pearl

Here at Head Office we’re excitedly packing up our shoes and putting together finishing touches in preparation for a really exciting event this weekend at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Verity windowRachel Simpson Shoes has been invited to showcase some of our designs at the White Gallery, a prestigious, international event for bridal designers. We’ll be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Amanda Wakeley, Katzi Jewellery and Sassi Holford and it will be our chance to showcase the beautiful new Pearl collection and to tease visitors and press with a glimpse of something special we’ll be launching later in the year.
